Monday Motivation - September 30th

Hi everyone,

I’ve settled back into life in the UK this week, after the trip Luke and I made to the US. Chicago was great, friendly, good weather and the people were pretty chilled.

But since returning, I’ve had a sense of gratitude for everything we have here in the UK. Family (thanks Gail for looking after everything while I was gone!); London’s open spaces (I didn’t realise how much I take them for granted); our food (more about that later); and the traffic, which is actually not that bad compared to a city that pretty much relies on car travel (it does have the ‘L’ train, which is cool, but whose crazy idea was it to build an elevated rail network? It was Charles Yerkes, who ironically later developed the London Underground!). You can read about the whole Chicago rail story here.

How about the US food portion sizes? Numerous times, I was served a portion probably large enough for two people. An omelette the size of a rugby ball with a side of pancakes. A burger larger than two fists. Don’t even go into the deep-dish pizza that Chicago is famous for. But what is the difference between portion size and serving size?

And if you’re wondering exactly how much you should eat, click here to find the newly recommended healthy portion sizes for the UK.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the UK, but its onset can be delayed or even prevented by keeping an ideal body weight and exercising. Have a read of the WHO fact sheet.

Speaking of exercise, have you heard of Peloton, the indoor cycling craze? (The internet tries to sell it to me all the time.) Well here’s the whole journey of how it came into existence, and more about how it floated on the stock exchange last week and was valued at US$8 billion after the launch. Eye watering!

Anyway, enjoy the early parts of autumn, keep exercising, moving, eating well and, as always, thanks for being part of our Chiro.London community.

Cheers,

Craig
