Mindful Monday - June 1st

A reminder our clinics are still open, so please contact us if you’re in need of help.

Good morning and happy Mindful Monday,

For many of us it feels like life is opening up again, as more and more people venture back to their workplaces and perhaps dare to drift past some of their favourite places of retail and hospitality, in the hope that they too are reopening. No doubt this is a time for optimism and forward-thinking, but it's also a time of extreme uncertainty and even heartache for many.

I hope you can find something useful in the following, regardless of where your head's at, and remember - we're only a phone call away...

Craig plans to ride a lap of the M25, by bike – this Wednesday!

So June 12th and 13th were meant to be Doc Craig’s time to finally do some cycling for something other than self-gratification. He’d signed up to the Duchenne’s Dash – a 24-hour cycling challenge from London to Paris – to raise money for research into the incurable Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). As you can imagine, the pandemic has put the kibosh on the planned ride, but Craig has instead devised another equally challenging task of rolling a lap around the M25 (no, not on the actual motorway, but on smaller roads close by). The loop is around 280km and you can have a peek at the planned course here.

One of the families at Craig’s kids’ school has been affected directly by DMD so he has teamed up with some of the other dads to group fundraise for Jamie – you can donate to the group here. We understand now is a difficult time to fundraise, but it’s also a bad time for charities like Duchenne UK, who are unable to hold these events they rely so heavily on. Please spare a few pounds if you can.

Reading

I'm a long-term fan of Monocle magazine and their Monocle 24 radio station. This month's edition of the magazine is an optimistic collection of ideas with a single view to help us get back on track – “Ok, we can do this".

Subscribe here and listen here.

Listening

I've had Manhattan rock group The Strokes’ new album, The New Abnormal, on repeat this week – pretty much just for the name. It starts strong with The Adults Are Talking, which I can't help but think is a gentle swipe at the US government in some way (?!), before happily drifting through a smattering of funky rock synth-containing tracks... A return to form, if ever there was one.

Old running shoes

I've managed to build up quite the collection over the years and most have reached the end of their natural lives. Sure, they still kinda work to slob around in, but they really are past their best. Thankfully, Nike now have a recycle shoe programme! They'll accept any brand and will grind them up and use them for making brand new fancy kicks. Brill!

Keep it real everyone. Stay special.
