Thoughtful Thursday - June 18th
Hello and happy Thoughtful Thursday,
So today's one will follow our educational themes but on a slightly more serious note than Drew's standard Thursday fare.
Another big week in global and local events and consciousness... The ongoing spectre of Covid-19 is still reminding us of its presence, while racial inequality awareness and the call for change is growing. These are significant events that may prove to be pivotal in the course of our society.
Most of my spare time this past week has been spent listening and trying to learn more about what I didn't know, that I didn't know, regarding racism. It has been a week and I'm only beginning to scratch the surface; there are literally hundreds of years of history to process, talk about and (hopefully) learn and evolve from.
Given the sheer volume of information, below are a few things I found to be a good starting point followed by some life-affirming stuff that has made me smile and/or given me hope that a better future is possible.
Rich Roll talks Black Lives Matter.
A privileged white guy wanting to learn more about the big issues dives deep with two African American leaders in their fields. I found this fascinating, enlightening and inspiring. An important listen that I'll revisit. (This episode is also great.)
You've probably already heard of this documentary and for good reason. It's amazing. Lifting the lid on slave trade (past and present), this doco delves into the history of the USA and how the economy is still intricately tied to slave labour.
