Mindful Monday - April 19th

Hello and happy Mindful Monday for another week!

As the UK inches towards a life that resembles "normality", now's a good time to pause and reflect on what you learned during your experience of lockdown. Some of us enjoyed the extra time at home without the daily commute, some moved to the country, and some took up a hobby or fitness regime that they didn't have time for previously. But while we're all looking forward to resuming some form of our previous lives, don't forget that you still have the opportunity to keep some of the changes that have improved your life in recent times, or make new ones. Go on, write a list…

“Being busy isn’t the same thing as adding value.”

Exactly.

Rules to live by
I love a good list especially one that helps make life easier and more fulfilling. This list of (short) rules to live by, by Ryan Holiday, fits the bill perfectly.

Some of my favs include:

  • Comparison = unhappiness

  • Get up when you fall or fail

  • Have a philosophy

  • Spend time with old people

(If you only read one thing from this week’s email, make it this.)

Cleaner air
Covid presented some of the world's best scientists with opportunities that would have otherwise been impossible to replicate – measuring air pollution was one of them. This article describes just what was learnt, and the before and after photos of some of the most polluted cities are amazing.

A superyacht for science
Earth 3000 is a superyacht for billionaires and scientists to cruise the high seas and study environmental change. It houses 22 labs, has a zero-emission nuclear power reactor, and pretty much looks like something out of a James Bond movie. Cool.

How many T- rexes does it take to make a fossil?
Have you ever wondered how many dinosaurs roamed the earth? Or more specifically, Tyrannosaurus rexes? Yep, I have, too. The best guess is 2.5 billion in their 127,000 generations. That many! Thirty-two skeleton fossils have been found, which means it equates to roughly 80 million T-rexes for each fossilised skeleton. Pretty rare.

Ok guys, be mindful, be kind, be happy and have a great week!

Big love,
Luke X
