Mindful Monday - August 16th
Hello and welcome to another edition of MM!
How was your weekend?
Fun?
Fast?
Memorable?
Most people I speak to comment on how quickly the year is flying along. Days are rolling into weeks, weeks into months, months into seasons… It can feel like a blur.
In the interest of attempting to make the most of each and every day, may I suggest/remind you of the very useful practice of journaling? It doesn’t need to be fancy – a few thoughts in a notebook (or note app) will do. Something to prompt a memory, a feeling, a thought, a moment – a mark in time. Something real.
“Words are easy to say and hard to do.
While your words are how you see yourself,
your actions are how other people see you.”
– FS
Absolutely.
Your Memory Palace
Want to improve your memory? Yep, me too.
The age-old technique of creating your very own Memory Palace supposedly goes back to Ancient Greece when a poet, Simonides of Ceos, recalled the seating plan of a banquet held in a building which sadly collapsed, rendering the diners unrecognisable. He was able to recall who was sitting where and help identify who was who in the aftermath.
Thankfully the technique is readily available to us all and doesn’t require such a morbid turn of events to be useful. Read more here and create your very own Memory Palace.
String Bike
Laying your hands on a new bike (and parts) has become increasingly difficult over the past 18 months. Enter a new kind of bike… with string. String Bike aims to make cycling easier to maintain and fun to make your own. They've replaced the traditional chain with string and lowered the maintenance effort. Roll on.
Masks for the planet
The pandemic has taken up most of our time and resources over the past 18 months, yet the other global issues didn’t magically disappear. The environment is still in need of some TLC and is rapidly heading in a direction that may well make life on the planet rather uncomfortable for us all.
So, with Covid not going away any time soon, G95 have knocked up some environmentally-conscious plant-based face masks. Thanks guys. Another positive step.
Better words
Predictive text has not only changed how we type, but also how we communicate. Syntax has changed and the written word is becoming rarer by the day. Thankfully there’s help afoot with Wordtune, which will spruce up your words and make them more compelling and, hopefully, relatable. Try it for free here.
Have a great week! You’re amazing.
Big love,
