Mindful Monday - February 14th
Good morning,
Good weekend?
Excited for the new week?
Yeah, me too.
Let’s make it a particularly good one.
“Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.”
— Colin Powell
Oh man, that is good.
How often have you identified so closely with your position that you actually feel personally affronted if/when things don’t go your way? Sometimes it’s easy to forget that everyone sees the world through their own unique lens, a lens that helps each and every one of us feel a little more certain and a little more safe. And when something or someone challenges our special view of the world, we feel the need to defend it or cave in a little bit.
Let’s bear this in mind the next time we’re with someone and be a bit more gentle. Deal?
Here’s some good stuff that’s happing in the world.
Guilt free wines
Many of you rockstars out there blitzed a dry January – bravo! For those of you looking to keep the alcohol-free streak going but aching for a glass of vino, Null Wines have you covered. Their alcohol-free wines promise complexity without the hangover. Tasty and clever.
Treading lightly
Sustainable clothing and footwear are continuing their rise in popularity. Viron shoes have harnessed the power of plants and recycled plastics to make proper retro boots and trainers that turn heads while leaving a teeny tiny eco footprint. Get yours here.
Women leading at sea
South America was hit hard by the pandemic with many small island communities essentially left to their own devices to survive the inevitable challenges. It was female leaders who consistently stood up and organised their community’s response in the face of an often considered misogynistic president. More power to them.
Donuts to the rescue?
A group of scientists outside Oxford recently generated a record-breaking 59 megajoules of sustained fusion energy over five seconds from a donut-shaped machine known as a tokamak. There’s still a long way to go, but the experiment does suggest that almost limitless energy is available and that we may need to rethink our relationship to donuts. Geek out here.
Be kind.
Tread lightly.
Donuts.
Big love,
Luke
