Mindful Monday - October 11th

Good morning, team!

(And yes, we are a team of sorts.)

Welcome to this week’s dose of Mindful Monday – today we’ve got a few new faves but first we’re starting with some old words of wisdom…

“What seems expensive is often cheap in the long run.”
- I don’t know who, but I bet they were old.

Investing in your health is pretty much always a wise use of your time and resources – or at least I’ve never found any reasonable reason not to. Like other forms of investing, making regular contributions over a long period of time tends to have higher returns than making big, one-off payments. So, regularly eating, moving and resting well (and having your spine checked) over a long period of time is likely to have you in better stead than one-off fad detoxes or flash in the pan exercise regimes that fizzle out – or worse, leave you injured and unable to exercise at all.

Ultimately, developing sustainable healthy habits is a good idea. Which begs the question: what would you like to add to your routine before the days get a little bit shorter?

Maybe a regular rowing workout…?
Over to Carl! The local Crossfit coach, PT, and proud father of Hunter recently put together this ultimate rowing machine workout guide for Form Nutrition.

Key points include:

  • Heels down

  • Push, don’t pull

  • Sit straight

And yes, I suppose these could also apply to some kind of puppy training….

Bikes for kids
It’s never too early to teach kids healthy habits, and regular exercise is one of the most important ones. The uptake of cycling has been a global phenomenon of the past 18 months, making the purchase of bikes no easy task for many. Thankfully Bike Club offers a savvy subscription service to keep little ones on two wheels that get upgraded as they grow, so they’re always on a bike that fits. Nice one.

Chilling with a book
While we all patiently await the next instalment of The Rivers of London series, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Mark Hayden’s The King's Watch series. Think of it as a slightly darker, funnier, grown-up Harry Potter for adults. Not for young eyes and ears though!

Cutting the cost of x-rays
While we pride ourselves on offering a premium, yet affordable x-ray service in our London clinics, we understand that some people are reluctant to pay for them – especially when they cost a fair bit more than ours.

After being stung the best part of $70k for a two-night stay in an American hospital, YouTuber Will Osman took matters into his own hands and built his own x-ray machine. We absolutely do not recommend this, but we do admire his resourcefulness!

Have a fab week, try something new (maybe not building an x-ray machine), revisit an old fave and rock on.

Big love,
Luke
