Thoughtful Thursday - April 8th

Sunshine galore this time last week and snow this week – what a crazy time! This week Craig may have talked to a cycling chiro, Michael journeys to the centre of your spine, and we have a plug for all the keen runners out there.

Clinic Updates
The latest BoJo chat has not really affected how we are working so I am hoping everything is going well in clinic under the guise that ‘no news is good news’. Any feedback is always welcome!

Days off
Our staff have a few upcoming days off here and there but it would be too lengthy to list them, so please do double check with your clinic to see if your chiro’s timetable is affected. Most of our diaries are also running at capacity, so please book your schedule in advance to ensure you do not miss out!

A big thank you again to those of you that have been accommodating to us tweaking your appointments slightly to enable us to help everyone as best we can. You have been very generous, and the people we have been able to get in have been super grateful!

Fees
A reminder to all three of our regular readers (will this joke ever get old?) that we will be raising our pay-as-you-go rate in all clinics. From Tuesday, May 4th the PAYG fees will be:

Fulham/Kew/Putney/Tooting £50
Marylebone £55

As previously noted, all packages of care will remain as is for the time being.

Podcast of the Week
We’ve got another chiro-centric one this week on the Chiro.London Pod, proudly fuelled by Ground Coffee Society. At time of writing, Craig was planning to chat to a very specialised cycling chiro (we promise it’s not himself!), which he should be doing just before you receive this newsletter. He will be talking all things cycling technique, performance and chiropractic, so do keep an eye out on our platforms – website, Spotify, Apple and Google – to have a listen when it drops very soon!

I’ve heard a whisper we also have one for the rugby fans coming up next week, so stay tuned for updates.

Vertebrae of the Week
So we may have jumped the gun a little when we said last week we were now at the central vertebra of Michael’s tour of your spine. It seems there’s a bit of conjecture as to whether the sacrum and coccyx should be included, and then even more conjecture surrounding just how many bones comprise the coccyx (but let’s not get into that right now). Yes, we will be featuring the sacrum and coccyx at the end of our lumbar section, so you can look forward to another couple of weeks of Michael’s spinal knowledge. But first…

T6
T6 is our half-way point of the thoracic region, and this vertebra innervates the stomach.

Your stomach is pretty important for good digestion, right? And if you’re digesting properly, then the food is processed, waste is eliminated and nutrients are converted into energy and provide nourishment to your cells.

However, if your stomach isn’t functioning properly, people can experience indigestion, dyspepsia, heartburn or a nervous stomach.

Shameless Plug of the Week
As the weather was improving and Craig was chatting cycling, we thought it best to put something out there for those of you who may have been more inspired to run.

But do you have trouble getting into your running groove? Have you started the couch to 5km and are struggling to pass 20 minutes without pain?

For that I will pass it over to Josie and the London Sports Therapy team. A very experienced practitioner, Josie has enjoyed a successful relationship with our chiropractic team to help get the crew in Marylebone up and running again. LST were working out of our Marylebone clinic pre-Covid but are currently based solely out of the Hogarth Health Club in Chiswick.

Josie and the team can offer expert advice, techniques and treatments to enable clients to understand their injuries and bodies – to heal well, move better, run faster and prevent further injury.

To help you understand what is going on, they suggest booking a running analysis. They will pop you on the treadmill to analyse your running technique to help you understand why you may have been struggling. From there, they can provide a technique assessment, potential injury analysis and see what they can do to help you eliminate your pain and prime your performance!

As a special for all the Thoughtful Thursday readers, anyone who books an Initial Consultation between now and May 31st and mentions “Chiro.London” will receive a 10% discount off their first appointment.

That’s all for this week – hope some of the runners out there find our shameless plug useful! Stay warm and look after yourselves, until next time.
