Thoughtful Thursday - February 4th

Welcome back! This week Michael continues his anatomy of a spine, Craig talks to the president of spinal research in Oz and we have a shiny new website!

Clinic Updates
Another week with not much new to report. If you are one of the unfortunate ones living in the postcodes in the testing blitz, please do contact us so we can rearrange your appointment.

We’d also like to take a moment to mention the passing of Sir Captain Tom Moore – what a legend. His incredible fundraising actions and positive spirit will inspire many for years to come, I’m sure.

Podcast of the Week
This week’s Chiro.London Pod, proudly fuelled by Ground Coffee Society, featured chiropractor Ryan Seaman, who is also the President of the Australian Spinal Research Foundation, which recently released a book, called The Case for Chiropractic.

They spoke about the role of the ASRF, the research they do and their vision for the future, before getting stuck into the book and discussing numerous articles that provide evidence for chiropractic – not just regarding neck and back pain, but also some really cool functional, neurological and health changes, too.

Watch the Zoom on IGTV here, or take a listen on the website, or on Spotify, Apple and Google, too.

Vertebra of the Week
For this week’s quiz, I am mixing it up and will send a bag of coffee or a box of pods from Ground Coffee Society to the first person that gets back to us with what they learnt in last week’s Vertebra of the Week.

And the next stop on Michael’s tour of your spine is…

C5
Coming now to the vertebrae in the lower neck, these nerves start supplying regions further down from the face. C5 houses the nerve that controls the vocal cords and various glands in the neck.

Even Madonna herself hired a chiropractor to be part of her entourage and join the singer on tour. She said of chiropractic, “The tour stresses me out and chiropractic takes some stress away and helps me perform”. Now if that doesn’t show that chiropractic isn’t just for back pain, then I don’t know what will! It can help with the effects of stress on the body and spine, and therefore help to increase your performance.

As C5 does innervate various glands in the throat area, the following symptoms might be linked to a subluxated C5: laryngitis, hoarseness, sore throat and other similar conditions.

Shameless Plug of the Week
We have overhauled our website!

We are hoping it will be a bit more functional and easier to navigate so will make it quicker to find whatever you are looking for.

We have all of our blogs on health and wellbeing, links to our social pages, a knowledge bank of chiro terms if you are a bit lost, exercises for you to do at home, along with any current offers we are running.

We are still ironing out the kinks so feel free to have a play around and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Any resources you think you or others could use that we are missing? We would love to hear from you!

That’s me done for another week. To those of you who read Luke’s email on Monday and carried on with the challenge, well done on making it this far! I hope adding in those little extra habits is doing you the world of good.

Over ‘n' out!
