Dr Craig's Immune System Boosting Strategy
No matter what time of year it is, it's never a bad time to give your immune system a boost. The body does an amazing job at healing itself but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do our best to help it out when it needs it.Dr Craig has put together these 7 tips on how to give your immune system a boost...and then what to do if you are struck down by a cold or illness.7 ways to boost your immune system1. Rest - take time to restore your body when its been maxed out to the limit. Try for 7-8 hours sleep each night or if that's difficult grab 10 minutes and mediate using something like the Headspace app.2. Eat well - chronic poor nutrition will lower your immunity. Ensure you have vegetables/salad/fruit as >50% of each meal or add to your diet with a morning NutriBullet.3. Supplementation - my basic mix of preventive supplements are as follows 1.) Vit C 1-3g per day 2.) Generic Multi Vit - one a day type formula 3.) Probiotic - try the ‘travel’ probiotic if you can’t be dealing with the ‘refrigerated' type of PB 4.) Vitamin D spray, especially needed though the dark winter months 5.) Apple cider vinegar.4. Hydration and alcohol minimisation - Fill up the 2L Evian bottle and try and get through it during your day. Attempt alcohol ‘dry’ mid week with a controlled intake at weekends. Nothing like a big weekend bender to make you susceptible on Monday!5. Get into the sunlight when you can6. Exercise - regular exercise boosts your entire physiology as well as releasing endorphins which make you feel good.7. Get adjusted by your chiropractor routinely - chiropractic care is as much about preventing a problem as it is about solving one. Regular adjustments will ensure your brain and body are harmony and your central nervous system stays in good shape. While this is a great starting point, it won't make you completely immune to bugs and colds. So what happens when you get ill? Be acutely aware of early symptoms and do the below at the earliest sign of illness. Maybe even use a Fitbit or Garmin pedometer which measures resting HR and once your HR spikes overnight and you feel symptoms coming on - do the below asap.1. Rest and take a day out and chill 2. Double the supplementation amounts listed above 3. Nutri bullet x3 times a day with loads of greens 4. Get adjusted daily. If you are a regular client, speak to us about coming every day till you kick the illness, I’m sure we can come to an arrangement to check you without charging you every time. 5. Stay away from the GP initially. Most colds and flus are not caused by bacteria - hence why would you need antibiotics.
