Monday Motivation - January 7th

Hello and welcome to 2019!

Before we embark on all the amazing tips to make this year your best ever, let’s take a moment to reflect on 2018 and see what we can learn.

When did you feel most happy last year?

What do you feel was your biggest success? (Is this the same as what made you most happy? Why/why not?)

What surprised you most last year? Why?

Where do you think you fell short?

What would you do differently in 2018 if you could go again? Why?

Now… What would you like to grow in 2019 for yourself and others?

What are your top three changes that you think will help with this?

How do you think that’ll make you feel?

What do you think are reasonable expectations for 2019?

Just taking a few minutes to contemplate these questions can help stimulate ideas that can move you to make changes you’ve not made before. It’s super common to make the declaration of a NY’s resolution only to have it drop off after a month or two. Holding onto the big reason for change can really help keep us on track.

So, with all this in mind, I invite you to embrace 2019 with all the love an enthusiasm you can muster! Enjoy. X

  1. Craig and I often joke about how one week we’re all about “get off your mobile phone, it’s soooo bad for you,” and then the next week it’s “check out these amazing apps we’re loving right now” – turns out we’re still human, too. 🙂 I did, however, come across this post about how you can set up your phone and computer to really help you stay on point. It’s a long read but worth coming back to again and again.

  2. Having a goal is one thing but being the person who achieves the goal is a very different kettle of fish (can’t believe it took me this long to use that phrase!?). Developing the habits of the kind of person who would achieve the goal is the real secret. Lots of great books out there about this, Atomic Habits is still my fav (from last month’s MM!).

  3. Exercise – do some. New year, new you, yeah, yeah, yeah… but it’s cold and dark and wet!? Well, I can assure you in spite of the weather your metabolism is not taking a rest and you should therefore move your body!! Here’s the minimalist approach (still a fav) that should keep it simple enough for most BUT if you’re struggling with a health/injury issue perhaps check out our basic back exercises to start getting things moving.

  4. Because if you don’t this happens… (2 min video).

  5. Eat better, move more, stress less, love more – TBC...

P.S. Speaking of resolutions, exercise and wellbeing, don’t forget our “New Year, New You” evening is on at Ground Coffee Society on Wednesday, January 23rd. We’ll have special guests joining us, including “The Naked Professor” Ben Bidwell and fitness guru Lawrence Price, to help you accomplish your health and self-improvement goals in 2019.

"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are."

- E. Cummings.
