Monday Motivation - March 9th

Hi there!

In honour of yesterday’s International Women’s Day, we decided to give Docs Luke and Craig the week off and asked one of the ladies of Chiro.London to take over for a special female-friendly edition of Monday Motivation.

I’m Lisa, and some of you may know me from the reception desk at our Putney and Fulham clinics, but I also look after our monthly newsletters and social media, too. If you look beyond the funny cat videos and witty viral memes of social media, you can actually find some clever, helpful and insightful people, products and companies that may just change your life (or at least, make it more interesting).

Here are some of my favourite social media discoveries…

@beachsidekitchen

Californian Belinda Kraemer’s account is littered with sunshine, fitness and loads of delicious, health-conscious foods that look as good as their full-fat, calorie-laden counterparts. Her recipes are easy to follow and I can attest to the success of her cookies – you’d never know they were gluten-, dairy- and refined-sugar free.

Qnola

I discovered this one years ago, when founder Danielle Copperman was selling ‘tester pots’ she made in her kitchen. Now this grain-, gluten-, dairy- and refined sugar-free quinoa granola is stocked worldwide and, locally, in Sainsbury’s. Cacao and cashew is still my favourite flavour, but the beetroot’s pretty great, too.

@benjaminshinestudio

An artist of a different nature, Benjamin Shine works not with paint, clay or even canvas, but primarily with tulle fabric, which he positions and presses into place with an iron to create magical, diaphanous visages.

@therestory_

It’s fair to say the easiest way to be a conscious shopper is to not buy anything at all. Enter The Restory, who’ll take your beloved bags, shoes and accessories, give them a little TLC and make them look brand new again. You can drop your items to their counters in Harvey Nichols or Selfridges, or book a collection, then they work their magic and return your ‘good-as-new’ items to the department store or directly to you.

Girlfriend Collective

Girlfriend was one of the first companies to turn ocean waste into fashionable and functional fitness gear. Not only are they eco-friendly but all-inclusive as well – their advertising features women of all shapes, ages and ethnicities, and their sizing runs from XXS to 6XL.

Smol

Speaking of eco-friendly products, Smol offers cruelty-free laundry and dishwasher capsules in recycled and recyclable packaging that are posted to you on a personalised subscription. Find you’re running out too quickly? No worries, just log into your account and change your postage date. Want to try before you commit? Just pay £1 for postage and you’ll be sent nine capsules to test for free.

Grace and Green

Grace and Green is a British-based small business producing organic, biodegradable sanitary products without any plastic packaging. Like Smol, their products are posted out to you and they offer monthly and quarterly subscriptions at a discounted rate.

@stylistmagazine

Better known as one of those free street magazines, Stylist’s Instagram feed is full of smart, witty and thought-provoking content that you won’t find in their printed pages. My particular favourites are the video posts, which cover everything from “Am I too young for botox?” to “Questions you shouldn’t ask lesbian couples”. If you’re in need of a giggle, try watching “Men in heels”, where they challenged their cocky male co-workers to spend a day in a woman’s shoes - literally.

@evachen212

A former magazine editor and native New Yorker with two young children, a high-profile, high-pressure job and who also writes children’s books on the side… Evan Chen is living proof that we can have it all, but she doesn’t sugar-coat her unedited daily accounts of modern life and that’s why she’s worth a follow.

@ochosystem

Joe Holder is a PT with a difference. Yes, he trains celebrities (Naomi Campbell is one), and sure, he has sweaty workout posts on his feed, but this Nike Master Trainer and former college footballer has a real holistic approach to fitness and even promotes “strategic laziness” – the idea that inaction is a form of action and pushing yourself to the limit can be detrimental. He’s also incredibly smart and well-read – check his ‘stories’ feed for the links to articles and books he’s currently reading.

Got something to add to our list? Tag us @Chiro.London and we’ll share our favourites on our Instagram story. While you’re there, give us a follow to stay up-to-date with all our health, team and clinic news.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

Cheers,

Lisa
