Thoughtful Thursday - June 25th
Welcome to another Thoughtful Thursday!
Clinic Updates (It’s a bit long so skip past for the good stuff!)
Given BoJo’s announcement this week with a lot of things pointing to July 4th as the day to rise from the ashes like a phoenix, we thought it’s worth letting you know:
We are still open as we have been since the start of April.
Given the model we have used has proven successful in keeping us open to help you all (so far, fingers crossed), we will not be making any major changes to how we have been doing things since then. We will keep you posted here and on social media of any operational tweaks we may make. This means your experience should remain similar and, most importantly, STRESS FREE! (Well, as stress free as possible in the current circumstances.)
So basically, we will carry on helping you all with longer appointment times to ensure we meet our hygiene protocols and have less people in the building. We will continue with a skeleton staff, with a few of our familiar front-of-house staff re-appearing from the iso wilderness to help look after you all and engage in some good physically-distanced chat!
We would also ask again to ensure you arrive at your allotted appointment time, and to be conscious of the fact that the wonderful dream of a Cycle City appears to be dwindling and replaced with a continual gridlock of cars, so please be mindful of this to ensure we can keep things moving smoothly. Do call if you are early or late so we can guide you on what to do before you come in.
Given we don’t believe our care stops with your adjustment, also keep an eye on the phone, as we are making some calls to check in with you all over the next few weeks to say hi and to see how you are, as we have done throughout the Covid cray.
Podcast(s) of the Week
Craig’s been at it again but might be beginning to run out of our own staff to interview…
Late last week he spoke to the delightful Sammy Kale DC about her experiences as a chiropractor in her local community of Fulham, which you can watch here or listen to here.
But then, just to mix it up a bit, he invited a special guest to join him from Sydney for this week’s latest episode – Ravi Rudner DC from Village Chiropractic in Manly. And wouldn’t you know it, Ravi also has his own podcast (called Before the Dip), which they talk about during this podcast. Check it out here and give it a listen here.
If you’re keen to watch a live podcast, tomorrow (Friday) we have Brad Taylor DC lined up to chat with Craig on our Instagram story at 3pm BST. So join the chat and don’t be shy – if you have any questions you’d like to ask Brad or Craig, please pop them into the comments during the talk.
Shameless Plug(s) of the Week
With non-essential businesses beginning to reopen all over the country, we wanted to give a shout-out to some of our local favourites we’ve missed dearly during this time.
Retail
Our fave little haberdashery shop The Sewing Rooms in Putney is back, meaning you don’t have to wait weeks for thread/elastic/needles to be delivered – surely music to the ears of everyone attempting to make their own masks! Their lovely staff are experts in home sewing and can help with any domestic dilemma, too.
If you’ve been longing to buy clothes rather than make your own, Iris Fashion have reopened two of their boutiques (Barnes and Queen’s Park) so you can once again browse their racks of affordable luxury fashion and give your wardrobe a summer refresh.
Services
Hairdressing salons and barbershops reopen next month, who will no doubt be inundated with all the dodgy home cuts and serious regrowth incurred during lockdown! Many are already taking bookings, including local faves Kink (Putney) and The Wild Hare and The Other Hare (Tooting), so get in quick if you want to snag a slot during reopening week.
If you didn’t nail the at-home manicure (pardon the pun), you’ll be pleased to know London Grace are reopening the doors to many of their salons from July 4th, so visit their website to book.
If you’re pretty comfy at home and don’t want to brave the outside world just yet, the clever folk at Glow & Dry will send a hair or beauty therapist to your humble abode. They’re also taking bookings from July 4th, so contact them to arrange your appointment.
Food
With many burger joints still in lockdown, Tooting fave Boom Bap Burger has bucked the trend and begun offering a click and collect service from its two locations (Paradise Row and of course Tooting). And yes, they have vegan options, too.
If you’ve seen Craig’s Insta recently, you’ll have noticed Fortitude Bakehouse becoming a regular fixture during his bike rides. Yesterday they opened a branch in West London (Chiswick), so now it’s even easier to buy their sticky buns and delectable cakes. I’ve figured out it takes around an hour to walk there from Putney, so you’re basically burning the calories as you go...
Ask the Team
Team Putney’s Grant Munro DC answers your question...
Can chiropractic help with headaches?
Chiropractic can most definitely help with some types of headaches. The top three bones in the neck share information with certain parts of the head, so if for some reason these joints aren't moving properly, you can feel this as a headache! Commonly in this case, getting the neck moving more efficiently with an adjustment can help take the pressure off the nerves going to the head, and often there can be quick relief.
Is there something about chiropractic you'd like to know more about? Have a health-related query we might be able to help with? Feel free to fire us back and we will answer it for you and everybody else!
That's it for this week, apologies for this email being from me again – I know it’s not as exciting as our special guest editions. Didn’t manage to coerce any of the DCs into helping us out this week. Am wondering if I name and shame someone, whether they may write something a bit more interesting for you all next week… (cough, Erana!)
Stay alert, stay safe and DEFINITELY enjoy a nice cold beverage, physically distanced, at an appropriate time in this week’s glorious sunshine!
Cheers,
Drew
