Mindful Monday - April 12th

Good morning and happy Monday!

My Easter egg-fuelled haze has cleared, as have the Scottish skies (won't last) and, like you, we're all rather excited to ease back into a post-lockdown way of life that's been sorely missed. Thank you Drew for cobbling together a greatest hits edition last week - a timely reminder that there are plenty of lessons to learn from the past…

Speaking of which:

“You wake up in the morning, and your purse is magically filled with twenty-four hours of unmanufactured tissue of the universe of your life. It is yours. It is the most precious of possessions. No one can take it from you. And no one receives either more or less than you receive. Waste your infinitely precious commodity as much as you will, and the supply will never be withheld from you. Moreover – you cannot draw on the future – impossible to get you into debt. You can only waste the passing moment. You cannot waste tomorrow – it’s kept for you.”
- Arnold Bennett, English novelist (1867-1931)

Quite right Arnie, thanks mate. And now for some good news…

Bee friendly
France is leading the way when it comes to protecting our little bee friends by banning the use of all five pesticides linked to bee deaths. As mentioned in previous MM emails (here and here), bees pretty much keep our food supply ticking and can always do with a helping hand. Bravo, France!

Moonstruck
So you know how that big ship got stuck in the Suez Canal and everyone tried to free it? Well, in the end it was the moon that finally got it (and £7b worth of goods per day!?) moving again. Thank you, moon.

To gym or not to gym
With gyms now a thing again, many of you will be considering what your ideal fitness routine looks like. For many of us the home workout has been an easier, low-stress alternative that will continue, while others are itching to get back to their chosen temple of sweat.

For those looking to up their training-at-home game, here are 7 exercises to consider and Carl is still offering Insta Live classes here.

And for the gym bunnies here are some of our favourite places to sweat: Body Society (Fulham; open for solo gym workouts and outdoor classes), Daley Fitness (Putney; solo gym workouts/outdoor classes), Barch Richmond (outdoor classes), and Absolute Studios (Parsons Green and Kensal Rise; opening April 19 as a reformer gym and 1:1 sessions).

That time Amazon changed its app logo...
The particularly observant among you may have noticed a few weeks ago that Amazon's app logo changed... and then changed again. It was suggested that the first new logo too closely resembled a cardboard Adolf Hitler. We don't know if sales suffered (I doubt it) but their image of a company bringing joy to doorsteps was probably bruised a little.

“The biggest generator of long term results is learning to do things when you don't feel like doing them. Discipline is more reliable than motivation.”
- FS

Have an awesome week guys - you're special.

Big love,
Luke X
