Thoughtful Thursday - September 24th

Welcome to this week’s Thoughtful Thursday, where we’re welcoming some new faces! But first…

Clinic Updates

The good news is that BoJo's latest announcement has not affected our ability to care for you and we look forward to seeing you as planned. Please do keep an eye on our social media and your inbox on Mondays/Thursdays for updates if anything changes.

We would ask that if you have been told to self-isolate or quarantine for any reason that you follow this guidance and do not attend clinic. We have surprisingly had this pop up a few times lately and, without getting into the politics of it, it is pretty uncool not to follow the advice. So be please nice to everyone by chilling out at home, or give us a call for a chat if you are going crazy in isolation, and we will help as much as we can (without seeing you in person).

And another little reminder to please wear your mask into clinic (this does not have to be worn during your adjustment but please help our other clients and staff by wearing it when you enter, exit and are waiting), and to arrive promptly to your appointment (if you happen to be really early or late, just give reception a call and they can advise you on what to do). The less people we have in the building, the better for everyone. :)

Ok, now back to the good stuff – we are pleased to report almost all of our chiros are in clinic at the moment (save for Grant, who returns to Putney on Monday), and we also have some new arrivals to introduce you to! Check out our ‘Shameless plug’ section below for updates on our fresh faces.

Our Tooting clinic is also now open on Sunday mornings with one of our newbies (Zara) at the helm, so if you’re in need of a cheeky weekend adjustment, give Pearl and the team a call 0208 767 6718.

Podcast(s) of the Week

Craig’s had a quiet week on the podcast front as he’s been covering for Grant at Putney, but we hear he has some fascinating new content scheduled for next week, so keep an eye out on our Insta for all the details.

Don’t forget you can find our entire back catalogue of episodes on our website here, and also on other platforms such as Spotify, Apple and Google.

Shameless Plug(s) of the Week

This week’s shameless plugs are really truly shameless as we’re going to promote our own peeps #sorrynotsorry. So please join us in welcoming our new recruits: Zara and Silva!

Zara Watkinson DC joins the Toot Toot Train after running her own practice in Henley. Zara is a third-generation chiro (after her mum and her grandfather) so has lived the chiro life basically all her life! You can find Zara at Tooting on Monday morning and lunch time, Wednesday lunch time and evening, Friday all day and Sunday morning.

Unlike Zara, Silva Harris DC discovered chiropractic later in life, after her high-flying career as a long-haul flight attendant gave her major burn-out. Silva turned to chiropractic for help and found her health benefited so greatly, she wanted to be able to help others in the same way her chiropractor had helped her. You can find Silva at our Putney clinic on Tuesday morning and lunch time, Wednesday lunch time and evening, Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Ask the Team

Paul Danford DC answers your question…

What are the most common causes of back pain?

Although one might expect the answer to be bending, lifting, twisting, too much sitting, prolonged computer use, use of mobile devices, sporting activities, arthritis, fatigue or STRESS, these are certainly lifestyles/activities that can lead to back pain. However, the most common underlying cause of back pain is undoubtedly “poor posture”.

What, I hear you say!?! Poor posture or, more specifically, changes to the normal postural curves of the spinal column puts extra demand on the spine (certain joints moving too much while others become stiff and restricted), ultimately causing the spine to become progressively weak and vulnerable to injuries related to bending, lifting, twisting, too much sitting, prolonged computer use, use of mobile devices, sporting activities, arthritis, fatigue or stress.

Chiropractors are able to identify and treat those joints giving rise to symptoms. Once these symptoms are under control, chiropractic can maintain optimal spinal health and, when combined with appropriate advice and rehab exercises, the posture of the spine can be improved, which strengthens the spine, reducing the likelihood of relapse.

Thanks for tuning in again this week. Really hope everyone is doing ok, particularly our friends in hospo – reach out if we can help in any way. And for all those who are back to working from home, you can always revisit last week’s ThTh for the ultimate guide to WFH health here.

As a special treat for making it all the way to the end – here’s a video of Craig adjusting a puppy!

Stay safe everyone!
