Mindful Monday - September 13th

Good morning and happy Monday!

“Discipline creates opportunity.”
- FS

Yep, it sure does.

Following on from last week’s theme of simplicity being an available source of joy and meaning, may I propose that discipline also goes a long way, too.

We all show discipline in our lives. Granted, many of us show great discipline and commitment to things and activities that may not lead to the most desirable outcomes… like great discipline in watching every episode of multiple shows on Netflix, or huge commitment to fast/convenient foods, and perhaps an even greater degree of discipline in checking our smart phones every two minutes.

But what if we added or course-corrected some of this focus and attention to building discipline for other daily habits that will serve us and others to great effect?

How about…

  • Starting each and every day with a glass of water

  • Finishing your shower with cold water for 15 seconds

  • Taking five deep breaths every hour and calming your mind

  • Keeping your bedroom a screen/phone-free zone

Do any of these grab your attention?
How many more can you think of and would like to commit to?

And breathe…

You’ve been Punkt.
I recently made the decision to create more healthy boundaries regarding my iPhone (not for the first time, I might add). In other words, it’s no longer my alarm in the mornings, I don’t scroll through the news in bed, and I leave it downstairs. I’m also trying to leave it alone on weekends.

So, I’ve revisited my not so ‘smart’ – but rather smart – Punkt. phone. It makes calls and sends messages just like a phone should, but without the added trimmings of a camera, Insta and my seemingly endless collection of apps. I really like it. Check it out here.

Simple and sustainable living
Sarah Lozanova is an expert on treading lightly on the planet whilst bringing more meaning into our lives. In her book The Humane Home, Sarah shows us how simple it can be to take small but important steps toward creating a sustainable and fun space to live in while saving money, too. An important book.

It’s alive!
To help bring awareness (/advertise) their new electric range of cars, Volkswagen commissioned this living billboard in Manchester. Made with moss and featuring a sun- and wind-powered generator to help capture CO₂, perhaps this is a sign of things to come… (Pun intended.)

Thank you, as always, for reading, and have a fabulous week!

Big love,
Luke X
