Thoughtful Thursday - April 22nd
Another week down! Hope you have all been enjoying a little more freedom (safely). This week, Craig chats with a rugby hero, Michael is looking at T8, and we have a lil plug to help those looking for a sneaky last-minute restaurant reservation.
Clinic Updates
No news is good news again!
Have had a little bit of complacency slipping in, so here’s a quick reminder to:
Please wear a mask in clinic.
Call us if you are running late so we can make arrangements to accommodate you. We’ve noticed traffic has been particularly bad this week around Tooting, Fulham and Putney so please allow extra time for travel if you’re driving or coming by bus.
Please give us 24 hours’ notice if you cannot attend. We have a sense of humour about this, but we are getting a lot more blasé no-shows of late, which are pushing us towards strictly enforcing cancellation fees.
First Bank Holiday in May
Each clinic will be business as usual during the weekend, with the following set for the Monday – at time of writing:
Putney – Open all day as normal (maybe a late start so the guys can have some breakky)
Fulham – Morning only (Mike)
Tooting – Open all day (Zara)
Marylebone – Chiropractic in the morning (Filippo), Physical Therapy in the afternoon (Iskander)
Kew – Afternoon only (Gopal)
Fees
10 days to go till PAYG fees go up on Tuesday, May 4th:
Fulham/Kew/Putney/Tooting £50
Marylebone £55
As previously noted, all packages of care will remain as is for the time being.
Podcast of the Week
A bit of a superstar this week on the Chiro.London Pod, proudly fuelled by Ground Coffee Society. Craig talks with John Mitchell, current England Rugby Union defence coach and ex-All Blacks head coach. He played 130+ first division games in New Zealand and he's been on the Putney chiro table for a couple of years now. We discuss all things performance, recovery and, of course, chiropractic!
You can have a listen to it on our website, Spotify, Apple and Google.
Vertebra of The Week
Still making good progress down the thoracic region in Michael’s tour of your spine, and this week’s focus point is…
T8
The nerve exiting the T8 level, which is just below your shoulder blades, supplies the spleen. What is the spleen? And why is it so important?
The spleen is the largest organ of your lymphatic system and it helps to keep body fluids balanced and assists with immune function.
By detecting potentially dangerous bacteria, viruses or other microorganisms in the blood, it aids immunity by creating white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes produce antibodies to kill the foreign microorganisms and stop them from spreading.
It cleans the blood by having it flow through its narrow passages. Healthy blood cells can pass easily, whereas old or damaged red blood cells are broken down into its parts to be then reused elsewhere.
So now you know why it’s important that the nerve supply to the ‘police station’ is good and as healthy as it can be – to allow the spleen to catch all the bad guys and protect the good ones.
Shameless Plug of the Week
I was really pleased with the feedback on last week’s slightly controversial decaffeinated special! Anyone that has jumped on board, would love to hear how it is going? Fire an email back and let me know if you’re enjoying the decaf life.
This week is one for the foodies – or anyone just itching to go out to a restaurant now that outdoor dining has resumed. Problem is, getting a reservation at the moment is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, but we’ve found a handy hack to make our lives a lot easier.
Enter the Instagram account @lastminutebooking. They update their stories every day with any and every London-based available restaurant reservation they hear about. Lots of them are for same-day reservations but there are also a few for next day, too.
They also have a list of places that cater to walk-ins if you happen to miss booking a table. Bon appétit!
That’s all from me for this week. Enjoy dining in the sunshine while it lasts – heard a rumour the rain’s returning next week!
Cheers,
Drew
